The Gries Deco Company Uses GK/Retail at its POS Units
Schöneck, 21 August 2008 - GK SOFTWARE AG has completed the rollout of its new store program for the “DEPOT” sales line at Gries Deco Company GmbH on schedule. All the stores have been working with the standard GK/Retail software since the end of April. As a result, “DEPOT” will be able to benefit from further developments made to GK/Retail in future.
Gries Deco Company GmbH has opted to work with GK SOFTWARE AG, one of the leading technological developers and providers of standard software for the retail trade in Europe, in order to boost its growth and unify its existing store IT network. Gries Deco Company GmbH, which has its corporate headquarters in Niedernberg near Aschaffenburg, successfully operates more than 125 stores in Germany, Switzerland and Spain. Gift items and decorative accessories have been sold under the company’s own brand name “DEPOT” since 1995. The network of stores and franchises is set to be further expanded over the next few years.
The company was searching for a POS solution, which would allow integrated processes. As the standard version of GK/Retail meets most of these requirements, it was possible to complete the rollout in all the shops managed directly by the company on schedule in less than two months. This was preceded by a brief adjustment phase for the program. Hans-Dieter Christ, Managing Director of Gries Deco Company GmbH, believes that the user-friendliness of the POS software and the way that sales staff can understand the system intuitively played a major role in this: “GK SOFTWARE AG has met our requirements in the best possible manner.” But on top of this, the customer was fully persuaded by the wide range of functions, the technical operating concept, the software architecture and the possibility of controlling all the POS units, setting their parameters and supplying them with updates from enterprise headquarters. The total package for Gries Deco Company GmbH contains the new POS solution, which is being used on SurePOS 500 till hardware from IBM, the Backoffice system, Storemanager and the GK/Retail Enterprise Cockpit.
Rainer Gläß, CEO at GK SOFTWARE AG issued the following statement: “By realizing this project for “DEPOT” quickly and using our standard software as the basis, we have once again demonstrated, as in other projects, that the GK/Retail suite can be adapted to an outstanding degree to fit any company size. This means that we can meet the special requirements of specialist retailers and those needed by major corporations with international operations.”
Delivery of New Branch Store Solution for the Kaufhof Warenhaus AG in Due Time
Schöneck / February 12, 2008 – In due time, the GK Software AG has delivered the new branch store solution for the Kaufhof Warenhaus AG. After the successful pilot run in the branch stores of Gießen and Leverkusen (at the end of 2007) as well as in further two pilot stores (at the beginning of 2008), from March 2008 onward, the about 4,000 cash register systems of all department stores in total will be gradually changed over. The GK Software AG's solution for Galeria Kaufhof is completely based on the GK/Retail standard that has been extended by specific customizations for department store enterprise. Due to that, Galeria Kaufhof will be able to benefit from the GK/Retail further developments in the future too.
According to plan, the GK Software AG has successfully reached the last milestones on the realization of the cash register project for Kaufhof Warenhaus AG so that the rollout in all German branch stores can be started in March 2008. In October 2007, all cash registers in the branch store of Gießen were already changed over followed by the branch store in Leverkusen. In both houses, the Christmas business was handled using GK/Retail. After this intensive test run, Galeria Kaufhof is now perfectly prepared for the use of GK/Retail in all department stores. With the rollout in this year, the Kaufhof Warenhaus AG and the GK Software AG will complete one of the largest German IT projects in the branch store area in due time. Hansjörg Bausch as Organization/Infor-matics Manager of Galeria Kaufhof says: "We are very proud to cause such an extensive project to be completed with a precision landing and, at the same time, to have a standard solution that meets our high demands."
At the end of 2005, after an intensive selection process, the Kaufhof Warenhaus AG had decided in favor of the GK Software AG solution. By the end, the decision in favor of GK/Retails was very clear. Decisive factors were the fact that GK/Retail is a standard solution, the extent of function-alities, the technical operating concept, the software architecture and the possibility that all cash registers can be controlled, parameterized and supplied with updates from within the head office.
The width of the function extent in the department store made particularly high demands on the new cash register software. Nevertheless, it was important for Galeria Kaufhof that no specific Kaufhof solution is developed, but a versionable standard product is used. In that way, the enterprise can also benefit from the GK/Retail further development and stays open for future trends and technologies.
The about 150 cashiers in the test branch stores are enthused of the new cash register system. The operator control of the touch-screen cash registers is ergonomic and widely self-explanatory. Now, many transactions that were time-consuming and, in part, could be called via code functions only in the past can be carried out in quick and simple manner. For example, customer returns can be handled directly by scanning the original voucher. Moreover, the time-consuming sorting of the goods is no more required due to the automatic assignment to the corresponding action coupons. On the cash register that can toggled between left-hand and right-hand operator control at any time, all functions around the Payback Card that is just strongly being used at Galeria Kaufhof can be handled in a comfortable way.
The decisive factor for the achievement of the project milestones in due time and high quality was the close in-partnership cooperation of the teams of the Kaufhof Warenhaus AG and of the GK Software AG. To this topic, Hansjörg Bausch as Organization/Informatics Manager of Galeria Kaufhof says: "All deliveries of the GK Software AG came in due time and high quality. We are highly satisfied with the process and the result of the project. With that, the correctness of our project decision has proved true in impressive manner." Rainer Gläß as Chairman of the Board and CEO of the GK Software AG states. "The high exertions of all participants have paid off. Because new developments were directly included into the standard, GK/Retail could also considerable benefit from this large-scale project."
The Enterprise's Spin-Off from the GK Software AG serves the independent Marketing of the StoreWeaver Integration Platform.
Riehen/Switzerland / February 4, 2008 – The StoreWeaver GmbH founded in January 2008 is managed by the experienced process and IT expert Richard Hambeck. The objective of the StoreWeaver GmbH is to focus on the further development of the StoreWeaver data hub developed by the GK Software AG and on the opening of new markets. On the EuroShop 2008, the StoreWeaver GmbH will present itself the first time to the broad specialized public.
With the spin-off of the StoreWeaver GmbH, the GK Software AG creates an independent platform for the further development of the StoreWeaver data hub. The solution is already utilized at leading retail traders and allows the linkage of subsystems (e.g. cash register, balance, empties return automat, etc.) and the end-to-end integration between enterprise and branch store.
The StoreWeaver GmbH's managing director Richard Hambeck is a successful process and IT specialist who has retail trade experiences of nearly twenty years, for example, as market manager, market organization manager and sales manager. At last, Richard Hambeck was Chief Operating Officer of Solquest and was responsible for the areas of development, consultation and quality center. His new task will be to ensure that the StoreWeaver will be further developed as independent product with interfaces to all common branch store and enterprise solutions.
On the EuroShop, it will the first time that the StoreWeaver GmbH will present itself to the specialized public, at the booth of the GK Software AG (hall 6, A 44).
Basel, St. Ingbert, 4 November 2008 – StoreWeaver GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of GK SOFTWARE AG, is opening its new competence center in St. Ingbert in the German state of Saarland. This provides the company with an attractive business location in the south-west of Germany, a region, which traditionally has strong links to the retail and IT business sectors.
Exactly twelve months after its launch, StoreWeaver GmbH is opening its first business location in Germany. After the company’s headquarters were established in Basel in Switzerland, the competence center of the 100% subsidiary of GK SOFTWARE AG has now been set up in St. Ingbert in the state of Saarland.
The company will use St. Ingbert primarily as an innovation and conference base. StoreWeaver GmbH will also be able to use the outstanding potential provided by retail IT specialists in the region.
The new competence center will in future handle further developments of all-round solutions provided by StoreWeaver GmbH in the complex business area of store integration. The Competence Center in St. Ingbert will also have one other major focus: merchandise management processes for retail companies based on mobile data capture devices. The implementation of the concepts will continue to take place in close collaboration with the parent company, GK Software AG. This means that StoreWeaver GmbH can rely on the comprehensive expertise of the German market leader for retail IT solutions.
Schöneck, July 15, 2008 – GK SOFTWARE AG, a European technology leader in the development and provision of standard software solutions for the retail industry, has won ESCADA as a new key account. The international luxury goods group for designer women's fashion has selected GK SOFTWARE AG's GK/Retail as the solution to use in its branches. In future, GK/Retail will be used to control ESCADA stores on four continents – America, Europe, Asia and Australia. This means that GK SOFTWARE AG has gained another leading international retailer as a client and at the same time it has penetrated the luxury goods segment with its solutions. The new order will be reflected in revenues and earnings in particular when the implementation phase starts in fiscal year 2009.
GK SOFTWARE AG once again won against its key competitors in an international tender. Hence, GK SOFTWARE has impressively proved its competitive advantages for technology, functionality and international use. ESCADA will use GK/Retail as a uniform global software solution in all of its stores. The solution will be rolled out at highly attractive locations in four continents such as New York, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo during the course of the project. The GK/Retail Storemanager will be used for the global management of the ESCADA branches. StoreWeaver will operate as the global data interface to connect all of the stores to the central SAP system.
Rainer Gläß, GK SOFTWARE AG's CEO: "We are very pleased to have acquired ESCADA – a top client in the highly attractive, high-growth luxury goods segment. Acquiring this key project confirms our consistent strategy that is geared to internationalization and developing new segments. We are sure that this global project will also set new standards."
On the EuroShop, the GK Software AG will show new solutions of the GK/Retail Suite
Schöneck / February 8, 2008 – On the EuroShop, the GK Software AG will show new and enhanced solutions of the GK/Retail suite. In this year, there will be focused on the Enterprise Store Server, on applications for the head office and on the new version of GK/Retail Mobile.
On the Euroshop, the GK Software AG will show many new or further developed solutions for the operation of branch store enterprises of all branches of trade. The focus of the booth will be on the topic of the holistic branch store integration on the basis of GK/Retail. A that, a particular highlight will consist in the live presentation of the Enterprise Store Server by means of which BackOffice server services and databases can completely be operated at central sites.
Using the Enterprise Store Server that is already productively used, branch store retailers can considerably reduce the complexity of their branch store IT. It allows the branch-store server services and the data keeping to be completely relocated to the head office. With that, the service and maintenance costs can be decreased substantially. At the same time, central high-performance hardware concepts, unlimited databases and simplified backup concepts can be realized.
On the EuroShop, the GK Software AG will show a complete branch store with relocated BackOffice server. At that, the branch store database and the server services will be running the enterprise headquarters in Schöneck. The complete BackOffice functionality is fully available through a client application on the booth. The permanent operability in the branch stores even in case of interrupted network connections is ensured by the GK/Retail Business Continuity Manager. Thus, the GK Software AG is one of the first providers on the market that offers an immediately applicable solution for the centralization of the branch store IT which is one of the most important challenges in current IT projects and the central point of the discussions on the lean branch store.
In the last year, a particular focus was on the further development of the solution offer for the enterprise head office. Therefore, the GK/Retail HeadOffice applications that were brought to live operation at big retail trade customers in the last year will be very interesting for the visitors. Among other things, this includes the Web-based Promotion Designer that allows the easy setting-up of any enterprise-wide actions via Drag & Drop and that controls their automatic distribution to the branch stores. Using the Central Coupon Server, retailers can accept coupons and prevent the fraudulent use by falsification or multiple redemption, both in multiple-branch-store manner. A particular coupon variant consists in the chargeable gift card that can be completely by GK/Retail so that no additional solutions are required. The fully integrated GK/Retail HeadOffice solutions offer retail traders the quick, centrally controlled and unlimited realization of loyalty actions in order to strengthen the customer loyalty and the trader's brand.
On the fair, GK/Retail Mobile as Java-based platform for the mapping of GK/Retail functionalities to MDEs will be presented in an updated version. This new version has many new functionalities and is based on the up-to-date basic technology for mobile applications. In this year, in addition to the mobile cash register that can be used for Queue Busting, as emergency cash register or on outdoor areas, the comprehensive merchandise management functionalities of GK/Retail Mobile are in the fore. For example, on the sales area, not only business processes such as orderings, inventory, amortizations, etc. can be realized. Rather, it is also possible, for example, to make price changes directly at the shelf, online in a leading ERP system such as SAP.
Primarily due to the international focus of the EuroShop, the GK Software AG expects a strong visitor congestion at its booth on which, in this year, Fujitsu, valuephone and the StoreWeaver GmbH as partners will present themselves too. With IBM as booth neighbor, a joint multiple-booth project consisting of ERP system and branch store solution will be shown.
Kundenfrequenz, Umsatzdaten etc. in near-Realtime präsentiert.

Extension Building in Schöneck Inaugurated with Successful Symposium
Schöneck / September 11, 2007 - The GK SOFTWARE AG further on grows successfully. The most recent expression of this growth was the inauguration of an extension building in the Schöneck headquarters with a top-level symposium. With the presence of the Saxon Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Georg Milbradt, retail experts, scientists and GK SOFTWARE AG representatives discussed the requirements that will have to be fulfilled by the information technology for the retail trade in the future.
On September 6, 2007, about 90 participants met in the conference center of the IFA hotel in Schöneck to take part in a symposium with the title "Keeping ahead of change - Future-oriented IT concepts for successful retailers" organized by the GK SOFTWARE AG. After the symposium, the new extension building in the headquarters in Schöneck was inaugurated with the presence of the District President of Chemnitz Karl Noltze und des Chief Administrative Officer of the Vogtland county Dr. Lenk. Now, on about 1,500 square meters, new office workplaces, conference rooms, test laboratories and a large cafeteria are available to the employees. About 90 of the 165 employees in total are working in the GK SOFTWARE AG headquarters.
In his keynote, Rainer Gläß as CEO Member of the Board of the GK SOFTWARE AG stated in which extent the enterprise has strongly grown in the last years. Six new projects, seven new productive countries, about 8,000 new productive installations, 31 new employees and the opening of the branch office in Berlin, this is the impressive balance of the last twelve months. Rainer Gläß showed that the GK SOFTWARE AG will be able to continue its strong growth in the future due to the focusing on the production of standard software, the continuous organization adjustment to the enterprise and the creation of a robust partner ecosystem.
The round of experts who gave lectures on the future of the retail trade was opened by Jochen Hampe as Managing Director of REtailerconSULT. He presented the newest EHI study on IT investments in the trade. Prof. Dr. Jörg Becker from the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster spoke about trends on trade information systems and up-to-date approaches for the software development and selection. How the GK SOFTWARE AG prepares for the future with its GK/Retail solution, this was presented by Ronald Scholz as Member of the Board of the enterprise. He pointed out the decisive advantage of GK/Retail that it is a solution without any limitations with respect to hardware, operating system or operational concept. He presented the product roadmap and important, already reached milestones such as the central Backoffice. Then, Hansjörg Bausch as Organization/Informatics Manager of the Kaufhof Warenhaus AG reported on the current project status shortly before the first rollout of GK/Retail. Prof. Dr. Rainer Thome from the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg spoke about completely new aspects with respect to the business-management potentials of RFID. Finally, the management consultant Ulrich Eggert showed the participants the chances and risks for the trade in the future.
As closing speaker of the event, the Saxon Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Georg Milbradt spoke. He emphasized the claim of Saxony to take one of the leaders in Germany in the field of information technology. He appreciated the development of the GK SOFTWARE AG as "one of the success stories we have in Saxony".
