A leading retailer with several sales lines will equip over 1,000 stores with SAP Point-of-Sale by GK in more than ten countries in southern Africa. This company is the first to complete the migration path from the old SAP POS solution (formerly known as Triversity) to the latest range of software. A local GK Software team together with a partner from the global partner network, which has already undergone intensive training, will complete the project, which will only entail relatively minor adjustments to the standard product.
As part of the expanded services support agreement, HP will provide after-sales solution services for the SAP Store Solutions by GK as well as implementation, roll-out and application and infrastructure services. The SAP Store solutions by GK comprise leading solutions for store operations with seamless integration into SAP. The solutions include POS and Mobile POS, Open Scale, Store Device Control, Label & Poster Print and Mobile Store Processes. For its part, GK extends its third-level client support.
The agreement is designed to make a qualified implementation and service partner available to clients for fast and flexible project implementations of SAP Solutions by GK across the world. Additionally, retailers will be able to leverage HP’s comprehensive service capabilities to help them operate their daily business consistently and effectively all over the world.
Rainer Gläß, CEO of GK SOFTWARE AG, comments, "The partnership with HP gives us the chance to increase the sales opportunities for our joint range of solutions with SAP throughout the world since it enables us to offer the retail sector an attractive total package."
Jules Beck, vice president, Global Enterprise Applications and Mobility Services, HP Enterprise Services added, "To keep customers, retailers need to innovate and improve the buying experience. Schöneck, 8. February 2013 - In all of the Dohle Trading Group's grocery stores, SAP and GK SOFTWARE AG will be implementing the mobile ERP solution SAP Offline Mobile Store by GK, using SAP Store Device Control by GK to connect peripheral devices such as scales and the label-printing solution.
Influential in the Dohle Trading Group's decision was the fact that this represented a fully integrated extension of its current SAP system to create a modern mobile ERP solution which would stand the test of time. Another key reason for the choice was that the new systems seamlessly interface with the existing SAP portfolio and its technical base components such as SAP Netweaver. Thanks to the online capability of SAP Offline Mobile Store by GK, Dohle can rely on much quicker data delivery to the mobile processes in the future, as well as consistently better-quality data. Meanwhile, flexible synchronization options for Dohle's various store formats will enable the food retailer to manage its processes even more efficiently. Furthermore, due to the integration of GK components in the SAP portal, all relevant activities can be performed either on mobile devices or at fixed workstations, depending on each employee's level of authorization. The new system will also improve the efficiency of the innovative automatic replenishment at branch level. By using these latest solutions, the Dohle Trading Group expects to optimize its processes and reduce its maintenance costs.
The Dohle Trading Group, headquartered in the German city of Siegburg, is a company steeped in tradition, the result of a merger in 1960 between grocery wholesale firms Gerhard Schröder-Bergheim (founded in 1901) and Jean Dohle-Quirrenbach (founded in 1927). Nowadays, the Group has more than 6,000 employees and operates convenience stores and supermarkets under the HIT banner, with stores of between 1,500 and 4,500 m² in approximately 100 towns and cities across the German states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hessen and Bavaria. HIT stands for enjoyment and health at affordable prices. Within its product range of approximately 30,000 SKUs, quality is a key focus. The fresh food departments have regularly received praise for their meats and sausages, fresh produce, cheese and dairy products, fresh fish specialties and the professional and knowledgeable approach of sales staff. A large wine department, delicatessen and convenience products and the new, natural initiative called 'Natürlich HIT' complement the retailer's offering. With its commitment to offering ever-more high-quality, natural food products, the company shoulders its corporate responsibility for people, animals and plants. The Dohle Trading Group generated sales of EUR1.5 billion in 2011.
Schöneck, 8 February 2013 - GK SOFTWARE AG has developed a new, affordable solution enabling retailers to offer their customers a self-checkout option, which is built around the standard software, GK/Retail POS.
The solution is fully integrated in the GK/Retail operating systems and retailers are free to use any hardware combinations they wish. This eliminates the need to invest in purchasing traditional self-checkout hardware, which can be expensive, and integrating it into the existing IT landscape. The new solution enables the use of standard hardware which meets the requirements of the particular type of retail store in question, and offers the exact same processes as can be found on traditional checkout counters (POS). Consumers are guided clearly and simply through the entire scanning and payment process. Furthermore, the systems feature a number of different modes, allowing them to be used both as shopper-operated self-checkouts and as traditional POS. Sales employees can monitor the systems using an iOS-based control cockpit (e.g. on an iPod or iPhone) and intervene whenever necessary - such as when a shopper is attempting to purchase an age-restricted item. The new solution is already fully operational within a leading Swiss retailer's organization.
Self-checkout systems are automated, consumer-operated alternatives to traditional checkout counters. They allow shoppers to scan, and if necessary weigh, the contents of their baskets themselves and then pay directly at the self-checkout station, either by cash or card. Several self-checkout systems are usually monitored by one employee who is on hand to help any shoppers experiencing difficulties and to carry out checks. Such systems, which are already in widespread use in countries such as the USA und the UK, enable retailers to offer better customer service while achieving significant cost savings.

New project in the strongly developing Russian market
Another international sales success through SAP
This is the first time that the GK SOFTWARE AG solutions have been successfully sold in Russia through the partnership with SAP. Modis will equip its approx. 75 stores in Russia with the new store software. The key factor here was the seamless integration of the software in the SAP retail system, which is one of the unique selling points of SAP Point-of-Sale by GK. A Russian partner will handle the work required to adapt the standard software to the special requirements of Modis. GK SOFTWARE AG will support this partner with training, development and consultancy services. GK SOFTWARE AG already supplies the store software for two leading retailers in Russia and this involves looking after more than ten thousand productive installations.
The project is due to be completed in 2013. Agreement was reached not to reveal any figures about the value of the project.
Modis, which has its headquarters in the Russian city of Moscow, was founded in 2005 and operates 75 large-format fashion department stores with sales areas measuring between 1,500 and 2,500 square meters. The company has business operations in many major Russian cities and has experienced continual growth for years. It sells clothing and accessories for men, women and children.
RedIron will handle the introduction of GK SOFTWARE AG solutions in North and Central America as part of the deal. GK SOFTWARE will support RedIron with training and consultancy and development services.
RedIron is the most experienced development & implementation partner for the SAP POS application software (formerly known as Triversity) and have worked with 90 percent of the major retailers that are using this system. The company therefore has both retail expertise and the specialists capable of introducing the GK SOFTWARE AG solutions.
GK SOFTWARE AG will benefit from licensing, maintenance and consulting revenues accruing from joint projects.
RedIron, which was founded in 2000 and has branches in the USA and Canada, focuses on the implementation and further development of innovative SAP store solutions. RedIron has implemented hundreds of successful projects for leading retailers during its tenure. RedIron solutions focus on the “big benefit areas” for Store Operations and Loss Prevention. In addition, SAP will also resell these applications in North America under the names SAP® Point-of-Sale by GK, SAP Store Device Control by GK, SAP Offline Mobile Store by GK, SAP Label and Poster Printing by GK and SAP Open Scale Management by GK. The GK store solutions sold by SAP are tightly integrated with other SAP applications and can be linked to devices used within a store (e.g., POS systems, scales, mobiles, empties, self checkout and vendor machines).
